Meet Third District Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (D) MI

Representative Hillary Scholten serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Small Business.

She serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittees on Aviation, Water Resources and Environment, and Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. 

Additionally, she serves on the Small Business subcommittees on Contracting and Infrastructure, and Rural Development, Energy, and Supply Chains.

She is the Vice-Ranking Member on the Coast Guard Subcommittee and the Ranking Member on the Contracting and Infrastructure Subcommittee.

Congresswoman Scholten is part of the Equality Caucus, the Problem Solvers Caucus, the Heartland Caucus, and the Black Maternal Health Caucus. She serves on the Great Lakes Task Force, the PFAS Task Force, and is a part of the New Democratic Coalition.

The Justice for Exploited Children Act 

"This Act would increase the civil monetary penalties for child labor law violations, to ensure those that break the law feel the pain. Additionally, as part of my effort to respond to this moral crisis, I successfully urged the White House to create a new inter-agency task force to protect children and crack down on child labor violators. "

The Dignity Act of 2023

 “As an attorney who has worked on immigration issues, both at the nation’s top law enforcement agency and at a community legal aid organization, helping migrants in West Michigan. I know this system. I’ve seen firsthand what patchwork and reactionary immigration policies do to families and communities. Our broken immigration system is a national security threat, an economic and workforce emergency and a humanitarian crisis. This is Congress’ issue to solve, and we’re here to solve it,”

"People deserve to be recognized for the work they do. That's why I led on this bipartisan legislation that would allow the Census to recognize people who pursue different pathways of higher education, like union apprenticeships and trade school."
